Move your library. Keep your data.
SnippetPilot uses compatible library exchange data across macOS, Windows and Linux. That is data portability, not automatic cloud sync.
Move between platforms
- On the source computer, export a complete library using a supported exchange format.
- Choose password-encrypted
.spvaultfor private transfers, or JSON only when plaintext is acceptable. - Transfer the completed file using storage you trust.
- On the destination, use a compatible SnippetPilot version and import the file. Review conflicts before confirming.
- Check snippets, collections and variables before deleting any original or backup.
Local shortcuts, device credentials and protection settings are not the shared library. Configure them on each computer.
Keep the right files
Do not copy a running database folder or point two applications at one live database. Windows local credentials are device/account-bound. Use the app's export/import workflow instead.
JSON is plaintext. CSV, TXT and Markdown exports are not complete backups. A .spvault export password is separate from an app-lock password: keep it safe because it cannot be recovered for you.
Older libraries
Windows 1.0.x and newer editions use different storage models. Use the migration/export workflow provided with your release, retain the original files and test the imported result. Do not assume an older version can read newer data.
